From Afterparty Decks to Global Dance Floors: How SYNEKK’s Journey Led to “Dem Mali Mali”

SYNEKK’s latest release, “Dem Mali Mali,” doesn’t just mark another addition to his catalog — it reflects a deeper story of growth, community, and creative direction. Out now across all major streaming platforms, the track captures the sound of an artist shaped as much by experience as by intention.

Long before his presence in Southeast Asia’s high-profile nightlife scene, SYNEKK’s relationship with music began behind the scenes. His production journey dates back to 2009, when he was crafting rap and hip-hop instrumentals in Cubase. That early foundation sharpened his understanding of rhythm, structure, and storytelling — skills that would later translate into electronic music.

Discovering DJ Culture Through Community

SYNEKK’s entry into DJing came much later, in 2023, when curiosity led him to experiment with an old, entry-level deck at afterparties he hosted. With little formal DJ background, those early sessions were driven by passion rather than polish. What accelerated his development was the surrounding community.

Local DJs such as BugzB welcomed him into the scene, offering guidance, encouragement, and practical knowledge that helped bridge the gap between hobbyist experimentation and professional intent. That openness became a defining factor in SYNEKK’s growth, reinforcing the importance of mentorship within nightlife ecosystems.

EventsKL and the Role of Music Director

A turning point came through his collaboration with Ameer, founder of EventsKL, one of Kuala Lumpur’s leading event promotion companies. Ameer was among the first to book SYNEKK as a DJ, helping transform a casual pursuit into a legitimate professional path.

Today, SYNEKK works closely with EventsKL as Music Director, curating soundscapes for large-scale events, luxury productions, and private gatherings throughout Malaysia. That role has refined his ability to read crowds, shape musical flow, and understand how sound functions within real-world environments — not just studio settings.

This dual perspective as both performer and curator plays a significant role in his productions. Tracks like “Dem Mali Mali” are informed by dance-floor reality, not theory.

“Dem Mali Mali”: A Natural Evolution

Collaborating with Nes Mburu and CHUMA, SYNEKK channels that lived experience into Afro-influenced club music that feels organic rather than engineered. Mburu’s background in Afrohouse and his previous global exposure, paired with CHUMA’s expressive vocal delivery, helped shape the final version of the track into something rhythm-led, patient, and emotionally resonant.

Rather than leaning on excess or spectacle, “Dem Mali Mali” thrives on groove — a reflection of SYNEKK’s time behind decks, watching how people move, react, and connect.

Looking Ahead

The single also previews SYNEKK’s upcoming EP, Kenya Hear Me?, expected in early 2026. Built around international collaboration and cultural exchange, the project draws inspiration from his travels and his immersion in Afro-influenced music across continents.

With “Dem Mali Mali,” SYNEKK doesn’t position himself as an outsider experimenting with a sound — he presents himself as a student of rhythm, shaped by community, mentorship, and experience.

“Dem Mali Mali” is available now on all major streaming platforms.
